California here we are!! Woke up in Ludlow and headed west.

Ludlow is in the middle of the desert with one motel, one diner and one gas station. In both directions is desert. Here is Carnie in front of a mining car since mining was prevalent in this area at one time.

As we headed west we finally got to civilization on Route 66 - the town of Barstow, CA. What a find!! When we arrived in Barstow a section of Route 66 was closed because of an oldies car show.

Not to be outdone, Jere decided to enter his 1987 Corvette in the contest. What an exciting hoot!

After this picture, we headed on our way - not sure if Jere won or not!

One of the neatest sites was the California Route 66 Museum with various articles from the ’50s. Here is a typical food booth that you would encounter at a soda joint back then.

What’s interesting is that we continued on to the Summit Inn Cafe which had the same booths from that era. Besides Buffalo and Ostrich Burgers, the cafe also had lots of cool stuff to view.

At this point we decided to take a detour to visit Lou Kertesz in Sun City who is a good buddy of both Jere and John. Lou was the perfect host and gave us a perfect respite complete with grilled steaks.
